Paper Trading Guide

All documentation

Paper mode runs your algo on live market prices with virtual money. It is the default for every new algo and needs no broker for orders (market data still comes through a connected data source).

  • Signals, simulated fills, stop-loss, target and square-off are recorded exactly like live trades, so you can review them on Signals, Positions and Trade History.
  • Use the P&L card in Paper view to judge results; Paper and Live are never added together.
  • Reset an algo's paper record from its Settings when you want a clean start.
Paper trading is a simulation. Paper results may differ materially from live trading because of liquidity, slippage, latency, brokerage charges, taxes, rejected orders and other real-market conditions.
